“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things and by your will they were created and have their being.” – Revelation 4:11
When I read this verse in my quiet time recently, I was struck by the phrase “by your will they were created…” It reminded me of the old Scripture song that we sang “waaaaay back” in the ‘70’s (the KJV version): “And for your pleasure they were created…”
I had to ask myself, “Do I truly believe that God was pleased and excited when He created me? That it was his perfect will for me to come into being?”
Parts of me can question that at times. I can so easily focus on my faults and weaknesses and deficiencies and let that color how I believe God views me. I need to let this truth settle in my heart!
It pleased God to create this world and that includes me! Psalm 139: 13-14, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works ARE WONDERFUL, I know that full well.”
I only need to look around at the amazing variety of people that there are to know our Creator is not racist, or nationalistic, or a “beauty-contest” God. He sees GREAT worth and value in every single person He has made…each one brought him pleasure as He created them.
As I meditate on my God and Creator’s great love AND pleasure in creating me, I find that I want to respond back to him with joy, “Lord, here I am, your maidservant, how can I please you today? What do you have in mind for me? How can I show you how much I love you in response to your love and passion for me?”
For the Bible also tells me that He created me for a purpose: Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Just as it is exciting to think that God thought me up- unique as I am- He also has thought up and prepared good works just for me to bless others and please Him! What an exciting truth and an exciting adventure with my Creator God!
He loves me, created me, knows me intimately, and has special, unique purposes for my life… He is truly worthy to receive glory, and honor, and power!!
Dear Lord, thank you that You CHOSE to create me and that you were pleased and excited to do so! There were no strings attached and nothing that I had to do to earn your love. Help me
remember that today! Thank you that I can bring you added pleasure and joy as I seek to follow and glorify you in all the purposes and plans that you have for me! Amen!
