This Week’s Sermon –   Pastor Matt will preach on “Zephaniah: The Day of the Lord.”
This week, we take a look at the book of Zephaniah, a prophet during the reign of King Josiah. After several generations of wicked kings, massive apostasy away from The Most High God to idolatry, King Josiah leads the Israel back to the worship of their true God. In the process of clearing out and repairing the temple, they find a copy of “The book of the law” (the scriptures they had at the time) – which had been lost for years – and once again are able to know God’s will for the nation. Josiah calls the whole nation to repentance. Zephaniah, using much of the language of the recently re-discovered book of Deuteronomy – warns the nation of impending judgement for their sin, but also announcing to them the good news of God’s faithfulness to his people, and that God will save and restore a people for himself – with a surprise twist: they will be from every nation! We will look at the consequence of rebellion against God, and the announcement of good news: salvation and rescue for those who trust in The Lord God.

Memory Verse: “I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival, so that you will no longer suffer reproach. Behold, at that time I will deal with all your oppressors. And I will save the lame and gather the outcast, and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth.” (ESV) Zephaniah 3:18-19
