  1. Read Mark 11 in its entirety. How does Jesus exhibit the roles of servant-king, servant-judge, and servant-prophet in this chapter?
  2. What instructions were given to two of Jesus’s disciples in verses 1-5? What happened when his disciples obeyed his instructions?
  3. Most triumphal kings would enter a city on horseback or in some sort of ornate chariot exhibiting their trophies of war, but Jesus entered on the colt of a donkey. What is significant about a colt that has never been sat on? (Hint: see Zch 9:9)
  4. What did the people do to welcome Jesus into Jerusalem?
  5. What purposes did Jesus accomplish by the manner in which he entered Jerusalem?
  6. Using a bible dictionary or other bible resource, what is the meaning of the word “Hosanna”?
  7. What did many people want Jesus to save them from, and what was the salvation he was really offering?
  8. What (or whom) does the barren fig tree represent in verses 12-14 and why did Jesus curse it?
  9. The people selling sacrificial animals in the temple were charging inflated prices for dishonest gain in the name of religion. They were also set-up in the part of the temple reserved for gentiles. What was Jesus reaction to this and what was he communicatingthrough his words and actions?
  10. What ultimately resulted from Jesus’ cleansing of the Temple?
  11. What was Jesus teaching his disciples (and us today) about prayer in verses 22-25?
  12. Why are God’s people commanded to pray? What does prayer accomplish?
  13. The chief priests questioned Jesus’ authority at the temple. Why did they not want to respond to Jesus’ questions in their confrontation with Jesus? What did their response show about their hearts?

  2. Where might I overlook my own need for sanctification because it is easier to see where other’s need sanctification more than me?
  3. Is there fruit in my life because of Jesus? If so, what is it?
  4. Where might I need to ask Jesus to enable me to bear fruit where I am not currently bearing fruit?
  5. What does it look like to put my faith in God through prayer in my current circumstances?
