Special Note: Some of the earliest and more reliable ancient manuscripts of Mark’s Gospel end at vs. 8. Later manuscripts include vs. 9-20, but most scholars believe that this section was not part of Mark’s original writing but was added later by an unknown author, perhaps early in the second century.
- Who went to anoint Jesus’ body and what were these women initially concerned about?
- Why did their concern change to alarm?
- What good news and instruction did the women receive and from whom?
- Why is the good news of the gospel not complete without the resurrection of Jesus?
- Why is it important to share the news of the resurrected Jesus with others?
- What ministry was begun by Jesus after he ascended to heaven? (Hint: Hebrews 7-10, Hebrews 13:20-21, 1 John 2:1-3)
- Read 1 Corinthians 15:20-23. Why is Christ’s resurrection so essential to the hope of our own future resurrected bodies?
- Read 1 Corinthians 15:35-49. While believers in Christ don’t know everything about our future resurrected bodies, we are told some remarkable things. List and discuss some of the descriptions Paul gives about the resurrected body.
Application:
1. What privilege, opportunity and obligation do I have to carry the gospel to the world? (See Mark 10:45)
2. Where might I be expecting others to serve me rather than me serving others like Jesus came to do?
3. What is my ready answer to give the world for the hope that I have in Christ? (1 Peter 3:15)
