Mark 9:2-13 Bible Study Questions

Dec13

Discussion

  1. What did Peter, James and John witness when Jesus took them up on a high mountain as told in Mark 9:2-8?
  2. What is significant about the presence of Moses and Elijah in the transfiguration and what might they represent?
  3. What does it mean to be transfigured?
  4. What did Peter want to do in response to what he was seeing? Why was this an example of wanting to act on human wisdom rather than divine wisdom?
  5. God the Father gave Peter, James and John what command?
  6. How does the unchanging word of God bring comfort in life this side of glory?
  7. What instructions were the disciples given by Jesus on the way down the mountain and what questions did this raise in their minds?
  8. Who had come to prepare the way for Jesus in the power and spirit of Elijah and how was this person’s ministry received? (See Luke 1:13-17)
  9. Read 2 Peter 1:12-21. Based on Peter’s experience on the mountain from his own account, what is Peter calling his audience (and us today) to believe?

Application:

1. How has Jesus brought radical change to my life? What radical changes am I looking forward to the most when I am fully glorified in Christ?

2. Like Peter wanting to build three shelters, what experiences, things or people might I be tempted to place on the same level of adoration as Jesus in my life?

3. Why can I trust God in all circumstances even when I might not fully understand all aspects of his nature or plan?
