  1. Describe/Recount Jesus’s arrest in the garden. What details stand out to you most?
  2. What is the only thing Jesus protested about during his arrest? How might his lack of resistance be a surprise to his disciples?
  3. Read Isaiah 50:6, Isaiah 53 & Zechariah 13:7, Mark 14:27. How were these scriptures fulfilled?
  4. Why would the author include the details in verses 51-52?
  5. After his arrest, Jesus first endured a religious trial. What are the repeated words or phrases you observe in verses 53-65?
  6. What difficulty did the religious leaders run into during their religious trial of Jesus?
  7. What were the requirements as stated by the law for believable testimony? (Read Deuteronomy 17:6, 19:15)
  8. How did the chief priest circumvent the law’s requirements?
  9. Define the word blasphemy. What was required by Mosaic law as punishment for blasphemy? (See Lev. 24:15-16)
  10. When asked, Jesus testified that he was the Messiah. Review Mark chapter 1:1-15. What witnesses testify to Jesus’ testimony being true?

  12. What did Peter remember when the rooster crowd the second time and what does this teach us about the power of knowing and remembering God’s words?
  13. Compare and contrast Jesus and Peter as they are enduring two parallel courtrooms (Jesus’s religious trial & Peter’s trial outside by his peers).
  14. What opportunities did Peter miss out on by denying Jesus?
  15. How does this passage support that Jesus is a friend of sinners?

  3. How will I know if I am truly repentant or just remorseful when confronted by my own sin and the consequences of that sin?
