  1. What was Jairus willing to lose to save his daughter?
  2. Compare and contrast the two people that came to Jesus for healing in 5:21-43. What did they have in common? How did they differ?
  3. What burdens did the woman carry in her affliction? What arguments or excuses could have kept the woman from coming to Jesus for healing?
  4. What did the woman think she needed to do to be healed and how did Jesus make sure she understood what actually healed her? Why was this important for her (and us today) to know?
  5. What is “faith”? How would you explain your understanding of “faith” to someone else?
  6. How did Jesus help Jairus after the news came about the death of his daughter? How does Jesus help people today in hard or hopeless circumstances?
  7. How does Jesus’s words of hope “The child is not dead but sleeps” still ring true for us today?
  8. What do we learn to be true about Jesus from the interactions with the bleeding woman and Jairus?
  9. How did the people of Nazareth treat Jesus? Why?
  10. Verse 6:6 says that Jesus was amazed at the Nazarene’s unbelief. Other places in scripture we find Jesus amazed by the faith of certain people. Why was the unbelief Jesus witnessed in Nazareth so notable? What warning should we take from this interaction?

  1. What are some circumstances God allowed in my life that caused me to feel desperate enough to go to Jesus for help? How did God shape my faith through those times?
  2. How does Jesus’s authority over disease and death comfort me, challenge me or both?
  3. Where might unbelief and relying on myself/my own understanding threaten my opportunity to experience the peace and hope only Jesus can give?
