- According to Hebrews 5:1-4, how is a high priest selected and for what reason?
- How was a high priest supposed to act towards the people he represented?
- Jesus was without sin. Why did this make him better able to sympathize and provide help for a sinner as compared to the help of one sinner to another?
- How does acknowledging, confessing and repenting of our own sin help us in our relationships towards God and other people?
- Read Psalm 2 and John 8:54. How does John and this Psalm give you greater understanding of verse 5?
- Read Genesis 14:18-20, Psalm 110, Hebrews 7:1-17. Old Testament priests came from the order of Aaron/Levites, why did Jesus come from the order of Melchizedek? (Hint: think about what Jesus and Melchizedek held in common)
- What do we learn about how Jesus spent his life on earth from 5:7-8?
- What does the phrase “he learned obedience from what he suffered” mean? How was Jesus “made perfect” through his suffering?
